U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin commented on cryptocurrency's future viability.

"I can assure you I will personally not be loaded up on bitcoin in 10 years," Mnuchin said on CNBC's Squawk Box. "I would bet even in five to six years I won't even be talking about bitcoin as Treasury Secretary."

This is the first direct statement from the Financial Action Task Force(FATF) in about a month since its final recommendation on the regulatory guidelines for cryptocurrency transactions in June.

Mnuchin previously said that cryptocurrencies pose "risk to the financial system" if misused like Swiss bank accounts. While Mnuchin seems to think crypto's future is bleak, he continues to bat for the U.S. dollar.

Mnuchin added later in today's interview, "I think the dollar is the reserve currency in the world. It's in our interest. We want to maintain it."

Same comments already have been said in Korea about cryptocurrency transactions. At that time, the context in which the remarks made in Korea was quite negative. So it is possible to take a view of Treasury Secretary Mnuchin's comments negatively. However, in the context of the interview, it is more like saying that he will stick to the original role of the finance minister, not reject the cryptocurrency unconditionally.
