The president of the United States, Donald Trump, made his first-ever comments on cryptocurrency and the value of Bitcoin. He twitted that he's not a fan of Bitcoin, claiming " It's based on thin air."
Trump also slated Facebook's Libra. He stated that he thinks it's not dependable and has little standing. He continued to say that Facebook, and other companies wanting to become a bank, "must seek a new Banking Charter and become subject to all Banking Regulations."
A founder of CryptoCurrently, Nebraskan Gooner retweeted on Trump's comment and said, "Well done (Donald Trump) for bringing more awareness to Bitcoin." While the cryptocurrency market is volatile and can show spikes in prices, it has consistently gained both attention and traction.
In the end, Trump moved to advocate the US Dollar, said it's the "most dominant currency in the World and is stronger than ever while being dependable and reliable."
However, according to Charlie Bilello, a researcher of Pension Partners, Bitcoin has increased over 1000% since Trump took office in 2017. US Dollar, on the other hand, dropped -58%.
The US president's tweets could have sparked as the time draws closer to the US House of Representatives. The next date to discuss Libra will be held on Wednesday 17th July.
