Role of Media outreach and Blockchain

Media in blockchain aims to reach a large number of enthusiasts and investors or we can say a large group of audience. However, the big media houses of print and electronic media like national newspapers and tv channels seems reluctant and avoid the propagation of blockchain and crypto related news unless there is a large scale event or incident in blockchain. With the advent of technology, media encompasses common masses through mediums like mobile phone, television, movies, radio and internet. It plays an imperative role in creating and shaping public opinion and the field of blockchain is not an exception.

There were numerous scams recently in crypto in the year 2018. This was because authentic information was not reaching to the public and investors. Blockchain became synonymous with crypto as the terminologies were not in common use earlier among the general masses. Only the technocrats and a few investors had understanding of classified and differentiated the blockchain and crypto separately and considered crypto as a product based on blockchain technology. The projects must not be held responsible about this perception; however, lack of authentic and unbiased media outreach made a huge loss to blockchain and crypto industry.

It is a well-known fact that with the help of media, various news about the government schemes and benefits reach to citizens in every part of the world but this is unfortunate that despite this understanding, experts, policy makers and the forerunners of blockchain technology have not been able to regulate and propagate facts and make it accessible to large audience so that at least people could check about the authenticity of the source before initiating a transaction. Same notion is applied with reporting and propagating any information through blockchain media too. Traditionally advertisement has been the major source of income for print and electronic media but media has been considered fourth pillar of democratic set up and it should not be overruled. Blockchain industry urgently requires responsible and reliable media.
