'K-Pop & Filecoin Day in Korea', an event hosted by Secure Finance, organized by TVCC and Blockchain World, and supported by the Filecoin Foundation has successfully ended.
On August 12th, 'K-pop & Filecoin Day in Korea' was held in Magok, Gangseo-gu. Its theme was harmony between K-pop, which has recently become very popular around the world, and the data market based on it.
At this event, △Protocol Labs Founder & CEO Juan Benet △ Filecoin Foundation Founding Officer & Director Clara Tsao △ Secured Finance Community Lead Timo Lee △ TVCC CEO Lee Dong-kyu (Aiden Lee) △ UJOONET CEO Ricky Moon △Tokenpost CEO Sonny Kwon △ Protocol Labs Developer Advocate Longfei Wang △ Protocol Labs Web3 Ecosystem&Partnerships Stefaan Vervaet △ Protocol Labs Filecoin Asia Marketing Isabella Bu △ Filecoin Foundation Developer Advocate Jenks Guo △ Protocol Labs Product Manager Brenda Lee and more attended and shared various issues in the industry.
The event started with the speech of Clara Chao, Founding Officer & Director of the Filecoin Foundation, under the theme of 'Greeting from Filecoin Foundation.' In her speech, she highlighted that "Currently, IPFS and Filecoin are preparing the Web3 foundation and are the only storage solutions that can be scaled to fit the Metaverse. Based on this data, we are committed to the blockchain carbon-neutral initiative ‘Filecoin Green’ to build a strong, secure, and sustainable network."
Juan Benet, Founder & CEO of Protocol Labs talked about 'Filecoin updates and technology development' in the interview video. Juan said, “There are many retrieval projects, such as 'Saturn,' a so-called Filecoin-based CDN, 'Network Indexer' that supports searches after indexing content by storage providers, and FVM (Filecoin Virtual Machine). He also added that “In the case of transactions, we have 140 PiB of storage in actual usage, which is much larger than the next generation of centralized storage networks, and is included in the top category for storing all content generated by Web3 applications."
Moreover, Timo Lee, Community Lead, gave a speech on the theme of 'K-Entertainment and Filecoin Storage.' He mentioned that “Due to COVID-19, the global entertainment industry is moving online using virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and extended reality (XR), which requires large servers or storage systems, but this causes problems in various aspects such as cost, safety, and preservation.” Timo emphasized that "Filecoin, which has the world's largest decentralized storage, can solve these problems, which are to store K-contents such as K-dramas and K-movies."
Following, TVCC CEO Lee Dong-kyu's video titled 'How I get started with Filecoin.' UJOONet CEO Moon Yoon-soo (Ricky Moon) explained 'Intro to UJOONET and Ecosystem.' CEO Moon said, "(UVP) is designed to store current data manually in Filecoin and it can be linked to the storage of the platform through an API, making it easier to open the Filecoin storage market. We plan to implement it by linking it with protocol labs' technology or building additional IPFS nodes."
In the following speech, Kwon Sung-min (Sonny Kwon), CEO of TokenPost, took the podium under the theme of 'Web3.0 Media, NFT, and Filecoin.' During his speech, he cited that “Currently, the news industry is facing existential crises, such as newspapers being discontinued and fake news spreading. IPFS is essential to building a decentralized news ecosystem and saving storage. Readers will also participate in crowd fact checking, and all records will be distributed and stored in IPFS.”
Longfei Wang, Developer Advocate of Protocol labs gave a lecture under the theme of 'Latest tech updates on Filecoin.' and said, "We are building FVMs and helping community developers such as automatic search and data DAOs develop compatible programs for FVMs." Then he stated △ Filecoin data calculation framework 'Bacalhau' △Programming language for zero-knowledge snarks (zk-SNARKs) 'Lurk' △Encryption network program 'Medusa' for Filecoin, and more. He stressed that "Filecoin needs sufficient skill through 'hierarchical consensus protocols in the future."
Stefan Vervaet, in charge of Web3 Ecosystem & Partnership in Protocol Labs, introduced the 'Storage Provider Ecosystem and Programs.' He explained that "Our mission is to build a network of enterprise-class Web 3 storage providers and a platform for distributed webs, and to that end, we are focusing on building new programs such as boot camps." He then added, "Just as Amazon, which first started its business 15 years ago, now controls most of the enterprise data market, we are building an entirely new enterprise ecosystem that will change the world."
Isabella Bu, Filecoin Asia Marketing in Protocol Labs, explained the 'Filecoin Ecosystem and how you can participate.' Currently, it is cooperating with blockchains and projects in various fields such as, △ Ethereum △ Flow △ OpenSea △ Gala Games. She furthermore indicated that "You can participate in the Filecoin ecosystem through hackathons and subsidies, as more than 450 startups are already based on IPFS and Filecoin in the identified areas and Secure Finance in the financial area."
Moving on, Jenks Gu, the Developer Advocate of the Filecoin Foundation, gave a speech on ‘Building Centralized CDN: Retrieval Market.' In his speech, he said that " “There are several difficulties in building an existing CDN, such as centralization, efficiency, security, availability, and optimization.” He then introduced the reason for establishing the search market, saying, “If you compare storing content in storage to food that is put in the freezer, the search market is the ‘thawing’ necessary to eat frozen food.”
Finally, Brenda Lee, the Product Manager of Protocol Labs, spoke about 'Boost/Filecoin Markets.' Branda explained 'Boost', a tool that allows storage providers to manage data storage and retrieval of filecoins. She emphasized that "Boost gives us greater visibility into our systems, and we've recently added data transfer options and tooling support to make it more convenient for storage providers."
Recently, as K-POP such as BTS and BLACKPINK has become famous all over the world, a movement to converge storage and K-POP has been detected in some areas. Currently, K-POP-related videos are stored and delivered to centralized storage such as Vimeo and YouTube. However, there are problems in various aspects, such as cost, stability, and preservation, so it is not suitable for delivering them. Luckily, Filecoin has the largest decentralized storage in the world and is evaluated as optimized storage by solving these problems at the same time. Therefore, if Filecoin and K-POP are converged, it is expected to present a new milestone in the storage market.
